Healthy School Meals for All Program (HSMA)

Healthy School Meals for All

Pinnacle Charter School is operating the Healthy School Meals for All program! Approved by Colorado voters, the new program enables districts to offer free meals, breakfast and lunch, to all students through the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program.

In addition to this, Pinnacle Charter School is participating in the Local Food Program which allows the school to provide fruits, vegetables, meat, and grains that are all produced in Colorado! This means the food we’re providing is that much more nutritious and helps the local economy! To get involved in local food at Pinnacle Charter School, contact the Nutrition Services Director, Kelley Dillon, at 303-450-3985 ext. 1164.

Important Reminders for Families

Just like in previous years, families should continue to provide their household income information by completing the Free and Reduced Meal application. While meals will be provided for free to all Pinnacle Charter School students through Healthy School Meals for All, it's important for us to continue gathering this information in order to receive full access to available federal funding.

By providing this information, you will be supporting our district in accessing additional federal funds that will go directly to our schools to help cover the cost of meals, as well as after school programs and other nutritional programs for students. Plus, families who qualify may receive discounted school fees, class materials, bus passes, utilities support and more!

Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP)

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) provides children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day.  It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options. Pinnacle Charter School provides fresh fruits or vegetables as a mid-day snack to all students in elementary school on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday of each week.

The Goal of the FFVP

  • Create healthier school environments by providing healthier food choices throughout the day.
  • Expand the variety of fruits and vegetables children experience
  • Increase children’s fruit and vegetable consumption
  • Make a difference in children’s diets to impact their present and future health
  • Educate children in nutrition and agriculture

This program is seen as an important catalyst for change in efforts to combat childhood obesity by helping children learn more healthful eating habits. The FFVP introduces school children to a variety of produce that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to sample.

The focus of the FFVP is to bring fresh produce into the school for distribution to children. For too many children, the produce they see in school might be their first exposure to fresh fruits and vegetables, and the only ones they see that day. That is why nutrition education is critical to the program’s success. Providing nutrition education can also help schools reach their goal of a healthier school environment. Throughout the year we teach students about how to taste new fruits and vegetables, where they might be grown, how they are grown, the different varieties of each fruit or vegetables, and so much more!

Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) provides free breakfast and lunch to all youth 18 years or age and younger. Children do not need to be enrolled at Pinnacle Charter School to participate in this great program. Children merely need to show up to the school during our hours of operation and they will be provided with a meal free of charge. The purpose of the program is to supplement the diets of kids during summer months when they are not in school. These meals are nutritious and delicious and ulimately designed to fuel kids throughout the summer until school starts again.

Summer Feeding is back this June and July! Free meals are available to all youth 18 years of age and under from June 1 through July 31, 2026 with the exception of 6/19, 7/3, and 7/29 when we will be closed.  If you would like a meal, please visit our cafeteria between 8:00-9:00am for breakfast, and between 11:00am-12:00pm for lunch, Monday through Friday. We look forward to seeing you soon!
